Working With Soils - British Society of Soil Science
LRA have been involved in the production of guidance notes which help non-soil specialists such as Local Authorities and Planners in their decision making process when working with soils. The documents cover the following topics:
- Agricultural Land Classification (ALC) – this document will help non specialists evaluate ALC reports submitted in support of a planning application in England and Wales. It provides a checklist of items to be included in a good report.
- Benefitting from Soil Management in Development & Construction – this document aims to promote the protection of soils and the important functions they support. It details what a Soil Management Plan should cover, recommendations for mitigation against flooding and the creation and support of habitats.
- Soil and Land Quality – this document assists in finding published soils data, it has links to online maps and data sets.
- Working with Soil Competencies –this document introduces the ‘Working with Soil Scheme’. This is a series of workshops which improves the knowledge and understanding of soils and how they can sustainably be used into the future.
